The Storehouse

The Storehouse is a charity shop that was opened in January 2009 and had no trouble getting stocked up with goods! There's lots of bric-a-brac, clothes, furniture and large items etc.

Why not come down and have a look. There's two floors of mixed stock to look at and there's always a great bargain or two. But if you can't come in to visit us why not visit our facebook page.

If you require delivery of any items that you purchase, we can also arrange delivery for a small cost.

Should you want to donate something but not sure if we would want it just give us a quick call.

Interview with Susan Langley, Manager of Storehouse Charity Shop, on Monday 14th

FIRST, PLEASE CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHAT YOUR JOB IS?

My name is Susan Langley.  I work in the Sanctuary Storehouse Shop as the Shop Manager.  I started in 2012 as a Volunteer Manager and then became the Manager, which I enjoy very much.

CAN YOU PLEASE TELL US A BIT ABOUT STOREHOUSE AND HOW IT BEGAN?

The Sanctuary Storehouse is a charity shop which opened in January 2009, stocked with furniture, bric-a-brac and clothing, as well as some larger items.

CAN YOU TELL US WHY YOU THINK STOREHOUSE IS IMPORTANT / NEEDED?

This project is very important as we help those that move on into their own properties from the Hostel / Night Stop, supplying items of furniture, i.e. beds, sofas, white goods, etc., that they need to help them move on.

CAN YOU TELL US SOME OF THE POSITIVES OF WORKING AT STOREHOUSE?

The positives in working at the Storehouse include being able to help people to set up their homes from moving out of the Hostel and helping other homeless people who are on the streets.  They can come and have a look at what is on offer to help them make a new start.  Also, people who are on the streets can get new clothes.

CAN YOU TELL US SOME OF THE NEGATIVES OF WORKING AT STOREHOUSE?

A negative is that we are unable to help everyone - there is just not enough stock to help every move on or every homeless person we come into contact with.  New stock is always welcome and always needed.

WHAT IS YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE OF STOREHOUSE?

In the future, I would like Storehouse to move to a new property, somewhere with a car park, to help volunteer and make it easier to load and unload the van.

THANK YOU, SUE

Verse of the Day

Sanctuary Trust works with homelessness and homeless related poverty and emergency homeless issues. God's Sanctuary was the vision of Sheila Halsall after seeing the level of homelessness Rochdale and later the homelessness Conwy and the substance misuse such as Drugs and Alcohol. By Providing emergency shelter for the homeless in supported housing services funded mainly through Supporting People we assist other providers such as Shelter homelessness, Petrus and Stepping Stones who are also supporting people through women's and men's hostels and floating support. We also have a Nightstop (crash pad). With our work in Wales we partner with Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) as they provide financial help for homeless through emergency shelter and their Supporting People funds. There are different kinds of accommodation available but what is needed is good quality supported accommodation with a strong business and development plan. We have also provided consultancy service to help others move closer to an answer to homelessness. Our social enterprise company, Sanctuary Trust Enterprises runs Noah's Ark Play Centre, The Storehouse Charity Shop.
