At the heart of Rhyl, the ROC Hub continues to be more than just a drop-in centre – it’s a vibrant space of growth, connection, and support. With a mission to uplift the community, especially those facing hardship, the hub is proud to introduce its newest volunteer, John, whose journey is as inspiring as the work he now helps deliver.
John brings with him lived experience of homelessness and addiction in North Wales.
His story is one of resilience, transformation, and a deep desire to give back. Now volunteering at the ROC Hub, John is not only serving behind the bar but also serving hope, empathy, and encouragement to others walking a path he knows all too well.
“I just want to give back and help people who are going through stuff I’ve been through,” John shared.
His presence is already making a difference. By connecting with visitors on a personal level, John helps reduce stigma and isolation, especially around issues
like homelessness, addiction, and mental health. His authenticity fosters trust and shows others that recovery and renewal are possible.
The ROC Hub’s core aims are reflected in John’s contributions:
Providing a welcoming, safe space for all, especially the vulnerable and isolated.
Encouraging positive social interaction through inclusive activities and shared experiences.
Promoting wellbeing and independence by guiding individuals toward support services and personal growth.
Acting as a bridge to further support, connecting people with housing, benefits, and mental health resources.
Fostering understanding and community spirit to break down stigma.John’s journey is a testament to the power of second chances and the
importance of community. His story reminds us that everyone has something valuable to offer – and that healing often begins with helping others.
