Aben Casual Workers

Good news story from the STEP Project - The Sanctuary Trust employ 6 new ABEN Causal workers!

The Sanctuary Trust is a key partner in theA Bed for Every Night initiative.

Aben

ABEN is a large-scale joined-up approach to end rough sleeping across Greater Manchester.  Initially ABEN ran from Nov 2018 and ended in MaRey 2019 - during this period Sanctuary Trust was responsibly for supporting over 50 rough sleepers into emergency accommodation.  In addition to a bed for the night, we provide access to hot food, a hot shower and specialist support to enable those in STEPs ABEN  accommodation to begin a sustainable journey away from life on the streets.

The Sanctuary Trust are pleased to announce have received funding to employ a second member of staff at the STEP to accommodate our additional Aben clients.  We decided to ring fence this recruitment to Pass it on guys with lived experience of homelessness.  With 12 months paid work to come through our ABEN response, plus a commitment to skill up through the Pass it on Scheme, our hope is to support 6 persons with lived experience from homelessness to paid employment in the Sector! We look forward to reporting on the progress of our 6 new recruits.

Verse of the Day

Sanctuary Trust works with homelessness and homeless related poverty and emergency homeless issues. God's Sanctuary was the vision of Sheila Halsall after seeing the level of homelessness Rochdale and later the homelessness Conwy and the substance misuse such as Drugs and Alcohol. By Providing emergency shelter for the homeless in supported housing services funded mainly through Supporting People we assist other providers such as Shelter homelessness, Petrus and Stepping Stones who are also supporting people through women's and men's hostels and floating support. We also have STEP Emergency overnight provision. With our work in Wales we partner with Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) as they provide financial help for homeless through emergency shelter and their Supporting People funds. There are different kinds of accommodation available but what is needed is good quality supported accommodation with a strong business and development plan. We have also provided consultancy service to help others move closer to an answer to homelessness. Our social enterprise company, Sanctuary Trust Enterprises runs Noah's Ark Play Centre, The Storehouse Charity Shop.
