Project Information
Conwy Food Bank, established as Conwy Food Share in January 2011, has become a lifeline for individuals and families in Conwy County facing dire circumstances. Its origins trace back to Cymru Community Food Share, one of North Wales’ earliest providers of food parcels to those in need. Operating independently and distinct from a national network, Conwy Food Bank is a project under the Sanctuary Trust umbrella, that relies entirely on community support, as it does not receive any government funding.
Providing a Lifeline in Crisis
Our purpose is to provide immediate support to those undergoing crises that prevent them from affording food. A wide range of reasons, including benefit sanctions, relationship breakdowns, debt, housing issues, illness, and family challenges, can lead individuals and families to seek assistance.
Operating on the principle of community generosity, Conwy Food Bank depends on donations from individuals, local businesses, and organizations. These contributions are essential in creating food parcels that provide nutritious sustenance for approximately 3-4 days to recipients.
Completing a referral to Conwy Food Bank
Professionals and organizations familiar with individuals in crisis can refer those in need to us for assistance. This collaborative approach ensures that aid is directed where it is most urgently needed and prevents self-referral.
Referring agencies, such as PCSO’s, community group leaders, citizens advice, headteachers or ministers of religion can refer to us. Any working professional will qualify to complete a referral form. To access a referral, please fill out the following form: Conwy Food Bank Referral Form and send via email to: [email protected]
Your Local Foodbank
Conwy Food Bank stands as an independent entity within the community. This autonomy empowers us to tailor our services directly to the requirements of the local population, fostering a more impactful and targeted response to community needs. While primarily focused on non-perishable items, our resources extend to feeding our community with fresh food, and providing toiletries, baby supplies, and more. Our food bank’s facilities include refrigeration, allowing for the acceptance of perishable items.
