Project Information
The community café has been running now for 4 months, opening twice a week 9.30-2.30 every Monday and Friday. Since opening the café has been used by numerous people and organization such as
- Changing futures team lunch
- Radar general meeting
- The Bridges (sing for your supper) AGM
- The Place team client meetings
We have helped with our worker Becci over 20 people who were in crisis to access help which they desperately needed such as
- Universal credit help
- Budgeting
- Bank accounts
- Bus passes
- Food vouchers
So far, we have been able to allow 3 people to access real change through the café, we have provided
- one person with £30.00 of gas
- a second with carpets
- a third with a washer and cooker.
On average the café makes about £45 a day which is plenty to restock and keep it running. I’m pleased to say that 9 out of 10 people who access the café pay something towards their own food or drink, people have even chosen to pay for a breakfast at the café instead of accessing a free breakfast at Petrus.
The café is an exciting and new venture which has so far offered 6 volunteer’s different roles within the project, helping them to gain experience and confidence.
Moving forward we are hoping to offer a Sunday brunch service which we will be asking for a donation of £1 per head to help cover cost. The brunch will be a choice of
- bacon, sausage, egg sandwiches
- Cereal
- Tea or coffee
- Juice
- Toast with jam or marmalade
This service will open up more volunteering opportunities for people accessing the men and women’s group as well as providing a food service which is currently unavailable on a weekend.
