Stories from the Frontline

Sarah Fernandez works as a rough sleeper work across Borough of Oldham.  Here she describes some of her recent work –

A case which always sticks in my mind is a young couple who we found living in a shed a few months back. This couple advised us they had been there for 6 months without any support. We supported them to a hotel and then to a temporary Abed for Every Night (ABEN) accommodation. Whilst in the ABEN accommodation I have been working with them to get into social housing and provide that pathway to independent living.

Another positive recent achievement was working with a young male who had no recourse to public funds. As a team we worked with the individual to address his mental health, support to accommodation by referring him into other services and finally supporting his journey to claim asylum.  He has now claimed asylum, engages with mental health services and is in stable temporary accommodation.

Not all stories are positive but through relationship building and frequent engagements hopefully those hard-to-reach individuals will accept support

Sarah has since moved on to another role, on behalf of everyone at Sanctuary trust thanks for all your hard work Sarah, you will be missed.
